To Slash Your Risk of Heart Disease, Keep Moving

Heart disease kills more people worldwide than any other disease, so whether or not it runs in your family, it’s important to stay physically fit to reduce the risk of developing the disease. Recent researchers have been studying the health risk by using a technique called genome-wide-association, which maps out people’s genomes to find out information on heart disease. They also did a recent study of comparing those who were genetically at risk for heart disease and those who were not, while tracking their lifestyles, to see if physically fit people reduced their risk. They found that the group of people who were in the highest aerobic fitness, reduced their likelihood of developing heart disease by half, no matter how strong their genes were prone to developing the disease. Although the study was not able to determine how much one should exercise, but they were able to conclude that having a proper diet and not smoking, also reduced the risk.

I thought this article was very informative because it reminds people how important it is to take care of their body regardless of what type of genes they have. The article is just confirming things we already know, which is to stay fit. There are so many other positive reasons why staying strong and healthy is beneficial for the body, even if one has genes that put them at higher risk. I think a lot of people try to take care of their body when they are confronted with a health issue, but many complications can be avoided if they take care of themselves beforehand.

  1. You make a good point about the importance of exercise regardless if you have a predisposition to a genetic disease. It does not come to a surprise that exercise would help with reducing the chance of heart disease. I also believe that even if you have some form of heart disease it is still important to have light exercise.(only speaking on my behalf i have a prolapse in my left ventricle)

  2. This is actually very interesting. I had no clue that heart diseases cause the most deaths compared to any other disease. That is shocking but I can see why. This is just proof of another benefit of exercising and keeping your body healthy. despite all medical conditions I feel as though remaining to stay healthy and exercising can contribute positively

  4. It is very important for individuals to take care of their bodies, in order to prevent heart disease. There are many individuals in society that have individuals that have heart disease or are obese, due to excessive eating. It is very important for individuals, with or without the disease, to exercise daily and provide essential nutrients to the body.

  5. I have always been one to stay active and take care of my body, but not everyone does. It is important that everyone stays active and takes care of their bodies to lower their risk of getting diseases like heart disease, especially since heart disease is genetic.

  6. Keeping yourself moving around is a huge factor to keep your body in good shape. Especially, for those with heart disease but it is important for everyone to excercise so they never get to that point.
