Have you ever wonder why dogs are so friendly compared to
their relative like wolves? It is due to a disruption on a gene for a protein
called GTF21. Researchers found out that hyper-social dogs have more disruption
on this gene compared to aloof wolf and the lack or changes in this gene can
cause the dog to behave more like wolf. This research is linked to Williams-Beuren syndrome (WBS) in human, which is a disorder related to hyper-social behavior. The researchers found out that the symptoms of WBS in human is related to WBS locus in dogs, the central feature of WBS is the main different to distinguish between domesticate dogs and wolves. However, in my opinion this research is only begun,
thus, not much concrete conclusion can be draw from this; this study still
needs to expand to a wider sample of dogs and wolves to be sure that the GTF21 protein is the cause of this aggressive behavior in dogs.
